Manhattan Beach Jewish Center

historic place

The Manhattan Beach Jewish Center is a historic place in Kings County, Brooklyn, New York. Its congregation was founded in 1922. The synagogue building, at 60 West End Avenue, was completed in 1952. Architect Jacob W. Sherman designed the structure, which reflects the Bauhaus-influenced Modern Movement. An adjoining community center was added between 1958 and 1961. This complex exemplified the "Jewish Center" movement, combining religious and community functions. In 2015, it was listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. It is significant as a mid-20th-century synagogue and an example of early post-World War II modern architecture.
