Lithuanian Alliance of America Building

historic place

The Lithuanian Alliance of America, founded in 1886, established its Manhattan headquarters in 1910. Located at 307 West 30th Street in Chelsea, this four-story, Neo-Grec style building was constructed between 1876 and 1877. The Alliance chose the site for its proximity to Ellis Island and Pennsylvania Station, serving as a key stop for Lithuanian immigrants. For decades, the building also housed the printing of "Tėvynė," a weekly Lithuanian-language newspaper. The Lithuanian Alliance Building is now a New York City designated landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It continues to preserve Lithuanian culture and heritage in New York City.
