Women's National Republican Club
historic place
The Women's National Republican Club is located in Manhattan, New York County. Henrietta Wells Livermore founded the club in 1921. Her vision was to create a national club to educate newly enfranchised women voters on political issues. The club's current building, at 3 West 51st Street, was formally opened on March 26, 1934. Architect Frederick Rhinelander King designed this Neo-Georgian style structure. It stands on the former site of Andrew Carnegie's home. The cornerstone for the building was laid on May 22, 1933. The Women's National Republican Club is notable as the oldest national club for Republican women to provide its members with a dedicated clubhouse. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. This site marks a significant place in the history of women's political involvement and club development in the United States.
