Church of Notre Dame and Rectory

historic place

The Church of Notre Dame and Rectory in New York, New York, is a historic place. It began in 1910 as a mission chapel for French-speaking Catholics. The sanctuary was designed by Daus & Otto. By 1914, architects Cross & Cross expanded the church and designed its rectory. The church displays a French Neoclassical style, including a monumental portico. Inside, a replica of the Lourdes grotto is featured. The rectory, also completed in 1914, is a three-story Italian Renaissance-style building of gray brick and stone. Both structures were designated New York City Landmarks in January 1967. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in May 1980. This site represents significant early 20th-century religious architecture in New York City.
