Lewistown Narrows Canal Park
historical marker
Welcome to Lewistown Narrows Canal Park, located in Mifflintown, Pennsylvania. This site is marked by a historical marker, erected in 2008. The park spans both Mifflin County and Juniata County. It preserves a section of the Pennsylvania Main Line Canal, specifically its Juniata Division. Within the park, visitors can see Lock Number 13 and a restored lock-keeper's house, which was originally constructed in 1860. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration completed the park's construction in 2008. The canal system served as the first major transportation link between Mifflin and Juniata Counties. A preserved towpath trail offers a connection to this historic route. This park highlights the historical importance of the canal as a vital transportation corridor in Pennsylvania's past.
