historical marker

In Millerstown, Perry County, Pennsylvania, a historical marker commemorates 'Millerstown Dairies.' Erected in 2020 by the Borough of Millerstown and the Historical Society of Perry County, the marker notes the Perry County Bicentennial, spanning 1820 to 2020. Perry County was established in 1820. This marker highlights the local dairy industry's role in the county's two-hundred-year history. Around 1905, William J. Hall began delivering milk in Millerstown using a horse-drawn buggy. In 1939, his son John Kretzing Hall and grandsons introduced pasteurized and homogenized milk to the area. They also started ice cream production in 1947. While milk processing concluded in 1966, the family's Hall's Ice Cream continued. This marker recognizes the significant contributions of local dairies to Millerstown and Perry County.
