Abilene and Northern Railway Company Depot

historic place

The Abilene and Northern Railway Company Depot, located in Abilene, Texas, is a significant historic place. This brick veneer building was constructed around 1929. It stands as a local example of Mission Revival architecture. The depot played a crucial role in Abilene's growth, serving as a key transportation and distribution hub in West Texas. The Abilene and Northern Railway Company was chartered in 1906, and its line officially opened for service on January 1, 1907. This 1929 structure replaced an earlier frame depot. The railway operated as a subsidiary of the Wichita Valley, later becoming part of the Burlington Railroad System. While no longer a passenger depot, the building now houses offices. Its historical importance to Abilene's development is recognized through its listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
