Davis, George R., House
historic place
The George R. Davis House, located in Abilene, Texas, was constructed between 1919 and 1920. This two-story brick dwelling is an outstanding example of Prairie School architecture in the city. Local architect David S. Castle designed the residence. George R. Davis, a rancher from Breckenridge, chose to move to Abilene in 1919. His house represents a trend where successful cattlemen built majestic residences in Abilene, drawn by the city's railroad connections and its development as a cultural, business, and social center. The George R. Davis House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. It remains significant for its architectural design and its connection to Abilene's early 20th-century development as a regional hub.
