Trolley Stop in Alamo Heights

historic place

The Trolley Stop in Alamo Heights is a historic place located in Bexar County. This structure was erected around 1927. It was created by Mexican artist Dionicio Rodriguez, known for his faux bois, or false wood, technique using cement. The trolley stop was commissioned by Charles Baumberger, President of San Antonio Portland Cement Company, and presented as a gift to the City of Alamo Heights. A bronze plaque inside the roof states this donation. Initially serving as a streetcar stop, it provided shelter for passengers. The structure was moved a few yards in 1931 when Broadway was widened. Today, it continues its function as a bus stop. The Trolley Stop in Alamo Heights was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. It is recognized for its artistic significance as a work by Dionicio Rodriguez.
