historic place
The State Highway 23 Bridge crosses the Clear Fork of the Brazos River in Shackelford County, near Albany, Texas. This historic place was constructed in 1929. It is a Parker through truss bridge. The Virginia Bridge and Iron Company of Roanoke, Virginia, and Maney and Alley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, built the bridge. The Texas Highway Department provided the engineering design. The bridge originally carried State Highway 23. It was later closed to cars when US 283 was built parallel to the old route. Today, the bridge is maintained for foot traffic.
