Nolte--Rooney House
historic place
The Nolte-Rooney House is a historic place located in Brewster County. It was built in 1890 by F.H. Nolte, an early settler, on land in what was then known as Murphyville, now Alpine. The house features 20-inch walls, constructed from adobe bricks that were molded at the building site. In 1893, Nolte sold the home to John Rooney, who became the second sheriff of Brewster County. The exterior of the house maintains its 1890 appearance. This site was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1968. The Nolte-Rooney House provides insight into early construction techniques and the lives of significant individuals in Alpine's development.
