Chambers County Courthouse, Anahuac, Texas

historic place

The Chambers County Courthouse in Anahuac, Texas, is a historic place. The current building was completed in 1936 and exhibits Art Deco and Moderne architectural styles. Chambers County was established in 1858. The county seat moved to Anahuac in 1908, following an election. This was influenced by Anahuac's rice canal system and issues at the former Wallisville courthouse. The previous courthouse, built in 1912, burned on April 28, 1935. The Public Works Administration partially funded the current structure, which finished construction in May 1937. This building reflects Chambers County's economic, political, and social history.
