historical marker
All Saints’ Episcopal Church is located in Austin, Travis County, Texas. The church was built in 1899 as a chapel for Grace Hall. Grace Hall, established in 1897 by Episcopal Bishop George Herbert Kinsolving and his wife Grace, served as the first residence for women students at the University of Texas. The chapel itself was dedicated to the memory of the Rt. Rev. Alexander Gregg, the first Episcopal Bishop of Texas. Austin architect A.O. Watson designed the Gothic Revival structure using native limestone. Its stained glass windows, crafted in a Medieval Mosaic style, are recognized as fine examples of American art. By 1910, All Saints' had grown to become a parish within the developing university neighborhood. Bishop Kinsolving, revered as a founder and benefactor, is interred beneath the church's altar. In 1975, the Texas Historical Commission erected a marker at this site, recognizing its enduring historical significance to the community and the Episcopal Church in Texas.
