Aynesworth-Wright House

historic place

The Aynesworth-Wright House is a historic place located in Austin, Travis County, Texas. Isaiah Hezekiah Aynesworth, born in 1797, constructed this Greek Revival residence around 1852. Aynesworth was a Baptist preacher and a cabinet maker. The house was originally situated at 4507 East Avenue and featured two rooms with an enclosed dog-run hallway. Later, additional rooms were attached to the back porch. In 1855, Dr. Joseph Wright, born in 1798, purchased the property from Aynesworth. Dr. Wright, a physician and surveyor, practiced medicine from a log building near his home. The house was later moved to its current location and restored by Franklin Savings Association. A historical marker for the Aynesworth-Wright House was erected in 1980 by the Texas Historical Commission. This house reflects early Austin pioneer history through its builders and occupants.
