Bluebonnet Tourist Camp

historic place

The Bluebonnet Tourist Camp, located in Austin, Travis County, was built in 1929. Joe and Elizabeth Lucas commissioned Brydson Lumber Company for its construction. Situated on Guadalupe Street, then Highway 81, it served travelers and visitors to the Austin State Hospital. This motor court-style motel featured eleven units, each with a room and covered parking. Its facade included petrified rock. The camp was renamed the Blue Bonnet Court around 1939. This site is historically significant as Austin's only surviving tourist camp built before 1930. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 16, 1990.
