Buen Retiro is a Colonial Revival mansion located in Austin, Travis County, Texas. Austin financier Louis Nicholas Goldbeck built this residence in 1902. In 1908, the property was sold to the Texas Association of Phi Gamma Delta, a national fraternity. It became the campus residence for the Tau Deuteron chapter. Many University of Texas students who lived here later became statesmen, cultural, and business leaders. Funding for the property included gifts from the family of university regent H.J. Lutcher Stark. The mansion reflects the social and residential history of a growing state university. In 1972, the Texas Historical Commission erected a marker, designating Buen Retiro as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. This highlights its historical importance in Austin.
