Claudia Taylor Johnson Hall
historical marker
Claudia Taylor Johnson Hall was constructed between 1912 and 1914. This building originally served as Austin's United States post office. In 1965, the federal government transferred the building to The University of Texas System. It was remodeled into administrative offices by 1970. The hall was named for Claudia Taylor Johnson, First Lady of the United States from 1963 to 1969. A historical marker was erected here in 1974 by the Texas Historical Commission. Today, Claudia Taylor Johnson Hall is preserved within a modern urban development, now housing retail and restaurants. This site demonstrates the adaptive reuse of a significant Austin civic building.
