Commercial Building at 4113 Guadalupe Street

historic place

The Commercial Building at 4113 Guadalupe Street in Austin, Travis County, is recognized as a Historic Place. This one-story commercial row building was constructed in 1920. The property was initially sold in 1911 to Mary Ottie Hartson, who later conveyed it to R.B. McMichael. In October 1920, R.B. and Ella McMichael contracted builder L. McConnachie for its construction. The building has continuously served commercial purposes since its completion. It stands as a significant example of early 20th-century commercial architecture in the Hyde Park area. Its design features a symmetrically arranged three-bay facade with a stepped parapet. While originally of frame construction, its primary facade was later faced in red brick, likely in the 1930s. This building reflects Hyde Park's character as a self-sufficient suburban community, having housed local businesses like shoe shops and beauty shops. The Commercial Building at 4113 Guadalupe Street was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 16, 1990. Its enduring presence contributes to the historical understanding of Austin's commercial development.
