Connelly--Yerwood House
historic place
The Connelly--Yerwood House in Austin, Texas, was built in 1904. It was initially home to the Connelly family. In 1926, the house was sold to Dr. Charles R. Yerwood and his wife Nan, an African-American family. The house is named for both families. Their daughter, Dr. Connie Yerwood Odom, a notable public health figure, later lived here. She was the first African American doctor to work for the Texas Public Health Service. The Connelly--Yerwood House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. This Travis County landmark reflects important demographic shifts in East Austin.
