Covert, Frank M. and Annie G., House

historic place

The Frank M. and Annie G. Covert House is a historic place located in Austin, Texas, within the Hyde Park Historic District. Completed around 1898, it was built for local real estate broker and auto dealer Frank M. Covert and Annie G. Covert. This house displays an eclectic blend of architectural styles, combining Queen Anne forms with Romanesque and Classical Revival details. Its masonry construction and two-story wraparound veranda were distinctive features in the Hyde Park neighborhood at the time. Between 1917 and 1945, the Covert House served a notable community role as a shelter for unwed mothers, operated by the House of the Holy Infancy. The property was later added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 16, 1990. This designation recognizes its architectural significance and its place in Austin's history.
