The Goodman Building is located in Austin, Travis County, Texas, at 202 West 13th Street. This late Victorian-style commercial building was constructed in the mid-1880s. It was built for grocer Joseph Goodman, and his store operated on the main floor until 1924. From 1892 to 1896, the building's upper floor housed Jacob Bickler's German and English Academy, an elite preparatory school. The building is noted for its distinctive decorative brickwork and ornamental iron railings. These architectural details are characteristic of its period. In 1969, the Texas Historical Commission erected a historical marker here. The Goodman Building was also added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Today, it functions as an adjunct office for the state government. Its basement also houses a local bar, "The Cloak Room". The Goodman Building stands as a reminder of Austin's early commercial and educational history.
