historical marker

The Hodnette House, located in Austin, Travis County, Texas, is recognized by a historical marker erected in 1998 by the Texas Historical Commission. This residence, built in 1909, was designed by prominent Austin architect Charles H. Page, Sr.. It was constructed for Austin businessman Milton Hodnette. The house stands as an important example of the Craftsman aesthetic. Its design features include a horizontal emphasis, broad overhanging eaves, and a generous porch. Local limestone was used in contrast with brick, and the house incorporated lanterns, a common element in Charles Page's designs. In the late 1940s, stone from an original low wall around the property was repurposed for a garage. The Hodnette House is a designated City of Austin Historic Landmark and a Texas Historic Landmark. It preserves a specific architectural style from early 20th-century Austin.
