Hyde Park Presbyterian Church
historic place
Hyde Park Presbyterian Church is a historic place in Austin, Travis County. The building was originally constructed in 1896 for the Hyde Park Baptist Church. It features a vernacular ecclesiastical architectural style. In 1909, a group of Presbyterians and seminarians sought to establish a congregation. The Hyde Park Presbyterian Church opened its doors on December 18, 1910, in the former Baptist church building, which had been moved to 40th Street. The building was then moved again in 1921 to its current location at 3915 Avenue B. After World War II, a small classroom was added to the rear. In 1948, a fellowship hall, named Wooten Hall, was also appended. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 16, 1990. This site is historically significant for its architecture and its role in the Hyde Park neighborhood's development.
