Jacob Leser House

historical marker

The Jacob Leser House is located in Austin, Travis County, Texas. German-born Jacob Leser, who lived from 1827 to 1901, purchased this land in 1859. He initially built a log cabin and a frame structure on the property to house his soap and candle factory. Before 1864, Leser added a stone wing to the cabin. Later, in the 1880s, he constructed the porch and additional brick-and-frame Victorian rooms. The original log cabin was eventually removed. The house remained occupied by Leser's heirs until 1951. In 1952, General and Mrs. Felipe A. Latorre acquired the property, undertaking its restoration and enlargement. The Texas Historical Commission erected a historical marker at the site in 1962. This marker commemorates the home's connection to Jacob Leser and its architectural evolution through the 19th century.
