The Kappa Kappa Gamma House, located in Austin, Travis County, Texas, is recognized as a historic place. The Beta Xi chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma was chartered at the University of Texas in 1902. The Beta Xi house association formed in 1936. Construction on this three-story sorority house began in 1938 and was completed in 1939. Noted Houston architect Birdsall P. Briscoe designed the structure in the Georgian Revival style. The house features a two-story central entry porch, Ionic columns and pilasters, and Greek detailing along the roof cornices. In 1989, the Texas Historical Commission erected a historical marker, designating the Kappa Kappa Gamma House as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. The house was further listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. This site illustrates the growing presence of women in American higher education during the early twentieth century.
