The Malcolm and Margaret Badger Reed Estate is located in Austin, Travis County, Texas. A historical marker was erected here in 2006 by the Texas Historical Commission, designating it a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. Malcolm Reed, born in 1876, became a leading cotton exporter in Central Texas. He also engaged in banking, real estate, and oil ventures. He married Margaret Badger in 1898, and they moved to Austin in 1908. In 1929, the Reeds moved into their new home at this location. Architect Hal Thomson designed the residence. The home displays an Italian Renaissance design, with a low-pitch hip roof, brackets, and a recessed porch. The estate also features a Belvedere, a replica of one at the Petit Trianon at Versailles. It hosted events, including Austin's 1940s Doll Buggy Parade, an early charity fundraiser. The estate remained in the Reed family, passing to their daughter Margaret and her husband Joseph Cocke, until 1990. This site represents a notable part of Austin's architectural and social history.
