Platt-Simpson Building

The Platt-Simpson Building, located in Austin, Travis County, Texas, holds a history dating back to the late 19th century. Radcliffe Platt constructed the original portion of this building around 1871. For nearly two decades, until 1890, Platt operated a livery stable here. He also resided in part of the structure for several years. In 1901, J.S. Simpson, born in 1854 and passing in 1934, acquired the property. Simpson then enlarged the building to house his hardware store, which remained at this location until the 1930s. The building is notable for its large arched windows with stone trim and a decorative brick cornice. The Texas Historical Commission erected a marker for the Platt-Simpson Building in 1982. This marker recognizes the building's role in Austin's commercial history.
