In Austin, Travis County, a historical marker, erected in 2004 by the Texas Historical Commission, commemorates Price Daniel. Born in Dayton, Texas, in 1910, Daniel dedicated his career to public service. He served in the Texas House of Representatives, becoming Speaker in 1943. Daniel was Texas Attorney General from 1947 to 1953, where he defended the state's tidelands ownership. He then served as a U.S. Senator, successfully sponsoring legislation to confirm Texas tidelands. From 1957 to 1963, Price Daniel served as Governor of Texas. During his time as governor, he supported the construction of the Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library building in Austin. He also worked to increase education funding. Later, Daniel was an Associate Justice of the Texas Supreme Court. Price Daniel's extensive career in state and national politics left a lasting impact on Texas.
