Raymond-Morley House

historic place

The Raymond-Morley House, a historic place in Austin, Travis County, is located at 510 Baylor Street. It was constructed between 1874 and 1876 by its first owner, John L. Raymond. The house, initially an I-plan design, underwent architectural changes over time. Between 1876 and 1893, a small stairway was replaced. In 1893, S.K. Morley acquired the property. Around 1900, the house was expanded, and Queen Anne detailing was added. The Raymond-Morley House was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 20, 1974. Later, in 1973, Bill and Sally Wittliff purchased the home, establishing Encino Press, a publishing house, within its walls. The house also served as a retreat for various writers. While the specific text and erection year of a historical marker are not available, the Raymond-Morley House is significant for its architectural evolution and its connection to Austin's cultural and literary history.
