Robinson-Macken House
historic place
The Robinson-Macken House in Austin, Texas, was built in 1876 for Elizabeth and John Robinson, Sr.. This two-and-a-half-story frame house exhibits Second Empire architecture with Italianate detailing, including a mansard roof and bay windows. Located within Austin's original 1839 town plan, the Robinsons were connected to the prominent Bremond family through marriage. Their son, Eugene Robinson, moved the house fifty feet north between 1909 and 1912. Joe and Bridget Macken purchased the property in 1928, owning it until 1983. Both John Robinson and Joe Macken served Austin as community leaders, including fire chief and city alderman. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985 and designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1986. In 1990, the Presbyterian Children's Home and Service Agency acquired it. The Robinson-Macken House reflects Austin's architectural history and the civic contributions of its early residents.
