Saint David’s Episcopal Church is located in Austin, Travis County, Texas. The first Episcopal church in Austin was established in 1848. The parish reorganized in 1851 with the merger of Christ Church Austin and Church of the Epiphany. The cornerstone for the current building was laid on April 4, 1853. Construction of the main church building, the city's first stone church, occurred between 1854 and 1855. It was initially known as the Church of the Epiphany and was renamed Saint David’s in 1859. The church was built of native limestone, combining Gothic and Spanish Mission architectural styles. Its founders included figures from the late Republic of Texas government. The Reverend Edward Fontaine served as its first rector. Saint David’s Episcopal Church also served as the home church for the first Bishop of the Texas Diocese, Alexander Gregg. In 1966, the State Historical Survey Committee erected a historical marker at this site. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. This site represents a significant part of Austin's early history and religious development.
