Schulze, Walter, House and Industrial Structure
historic place
The Schulze, Walter, House and Industrial Structure is located in Austin, Travis County, Texas. This site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 25, 1986. The property includes the residence of Walter Schulze, a well-known East Austin businessman. The house, constructed around 1906, is a late Victorian, wood-frame cottage. An earlier, one-room brick industrial structure is attached to the house by a covered breezeway. For over 40 years, the Schulze business operated from this location, offering groceries, beer, feed, cigars, wood, and charcoal, along with shoe repair and haircuts. Walter Schulze and his wife lived in the house until 1944 and 1956, respectively. The site is significant for its association with Walter Schulze and as an example of late Victorian residential and nineteenth-century industrial architecture.
