Sheeks-Robertson House

historic place

The Sheeks-Robertson House, a historic place in Austin, Travis County, is a notable example of Queen Anne style architecture. Judge David Sheeks, a lawyer from Indiana, built the original house in 1877. It was first situated on Pecan Street, which is now West Sixth Street. Later, Judge James H. Robertson, a lawyer and Tennessee native, acquired the property. Around 1896, Judge Robertson undertook a significant expansion and remodeling of the house. He was a prominent figure in the State Legislature and is known for authoring the Robertson Insurance Law. The Robertson family resided in the home until 1976. In that same year, the Sheeks-Robertson House was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places. This designation recognizes its architectural style and its association with key legal and political figures in Austin's development.
