Simms House, Austin, Texas
historic place
The Simms House, located in Austin, Travis County, is a significant historic place. It was built in 1935 for Walter and Mae Simms. Walter Simms was a leading figure in Austin's seafood industry, establishing Simms Fish Market in 1915 and delivering Gulf Coast seafood to central Texas for nearly forty years. Austin architect Roger Q. Small designed this home in a simplified Classical Revival style. A notable feature of the house is its integrated five-bay garage with a limestone façade, which was an innovative design for its time. The Simms House is recognized as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, with its marker erected in 2008 by the Texas Historical Commission. This site connects visitors to Austin's architectural development and the city's cultural history.
