State Cemetery of Texas

The State Cemetery of Texas is located in Austin, Travis County. This site serves as the final resting place for many who shaped the state. Its history began in 1851 with the burial of Edward Burleson, a general and vice-president of the Republic of Texas. The cemetery expanded to include prominent Texans and their spouses, alongside over two thousand Confederate veterans and their widows. Stephen F. Austin, known as the "Father of Texas," is also interred here. A historical marker for the State Cemetery of Texas was erected in 1968 by the State Historical Survey Committee. This site preserves the legacies of Texans who contributed to the state's history.
