The Statue of Liberty Replica, a historic place, is located on the Texas State Capitol grounds in Austin, Travis County. It was erected in 1951 by the Boy Scouts of America. This replica was part of a larger national initiative. The Boy Scouts of America launched the 'Strengthen the Arm of Liberty' campaign to commemorate their 40th anniversary in 1950. As part of this effort, approximately 200 such replicas were manufactured by the Friedley-Voshardt Company in Chicago and placed across the United States by Scout troops. The Austin statue, an 8-foot, 4-inch bronze miniature, originally stood on the southwest grounds of the Capitol. In 1997, it was relocated to the northwest grounds during a restoration project. During this move, a time capsule was discovered. It was later re-buried at a Boy Scout camp near Bastrop in 2008, with instructions for it to be opened in 2076. This historic marker reflects the Boy Scouts of America's national campaign to promote liberty in the mid-20th century.
