The Texas World War I Memorial is a historic place in Austin, Travis County, Texas. Erected in 1961, this memorial stands on the Texas State Capitol grounds, specifically between the Tom C. Clark Building and the John Reagan State Office Building. It was commissioned by the Department of Texas, Veterans of Foreign Wars. The monument is crafted from Texas Sunset Red Granite. Its design is attributed to Joe Machac, whose name is engraved at its base. This memorial commemorates the veterans of World War I, including the nearly 200,000 Texans who served in the armed forces and the more than 5,000 Texans who died during the conflict. The Department of Texas, Veterans of Foreign Wars, officially established in 1921, supports veterans and their families. The memorial serves as a tangible reminder of the state's significant participation and sacrifice in World War I.
