The Goodall Wooten House
historic place
The Goodall Wooten House, a historic place in Austin, Travis County, was constructed between 1898 and 1900. Dr. Goodall Harrison Wooten, born in Paris, Texas, in 1869, married Ella Newsome in 1897. The couple began planning their home in 1897, and construction started in 1898, completing in January 1900. Dallas architect Charles O'Connell designed the house. In 1910, renovations transformed the structure into a grand Classical Revival mansion, known for its brick and stonework, wraparound gallery, balustrade, and massive two-story paired columns with Ionic capitals. Ella Wooten also established extensive gardens on the property. The house remained a Wooten family residence until 1944. The Goodall Wooten House stands as a significant example of Classical Revival architecture in Austin.
