During World War II, Gordon secured a U.S. Government contract to produce rations for Allied soldiers. He was a charter member of Austin's Chamber of Commerce and served as President of the city's Better Business Bureau and Humane Society. Both Gordon and Margaret were active in Austin's civic and cultural life, including St. David's Episcopal Church, the Austin Symphony, and the Austin Country Club. The Texas Historical Commission erected this marker in 2004, recognizing their significant contributions to Austin's history.
