The Keith House, Austin, Texas

historic place

The Keith House, a historic landmark in Austin, Texas, is located at 2400 Harris Boulevard in Travis County. This two-story residence was built in 1933. Austin builder William Dixon Anderson designed the house for his sister, Maggie Mae Keith, and her husband, Jacque Nicholas Keith. The architecture showcases the Monterey style, blending Colonial Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival elements. Key features include its brick construction, one-over-one windows, shutters, and a second-story cantilevered wooden balcony with a wooden balustrade, all beneath a low-pitched roof. Positioned at the entrance to the Pemberton Heights neighborhood, the house was built with an unobstructed view of the Texas State Capitol. The Keith House became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1994 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. It is significant as an early example of the Monterey Revival style in Austin.
