The Littlefield Home

The Littlefield Home, a historic place in Austin, Travis County, Texas, stands on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. It was built in 1893 for Major George Washington Littlefield and his wife, Alice. Designed in the Victorian style by architect James Wahrenberger, the home cost around $50,000 to construct. Major Littlefield was a Civil War veteran, a successful cattleman, and a banker. He also served as a regent and was a significant benefactor to the University of Texas. Following Alice Littlefield's death in 1935, the home was bequeathed to the university. Today, it houses the University Events office and is used for university functions. The Texas Historical Commission erected a historical marker for the Littlefield Home in 1962, recognizing its importance.
