The William Green Hill House
historical marker
The William Green Hill House is located in Austin, Travis County, Texas. This historical site is marked by a medallion and plate, erected in 1974 by the Texas Historical Commission. The house was built in 1890 by William Green Hill and his wife, Ella Lone Sanders. William Green Hill, born in 1853, was the grandson of William Hickman Hill, who settled in Austin during the 1850s. William Green Hill worked for the railroads and at the State Capitol for many years. The house was designed with an angle to catch prevailing summer breezes. Around 1900, Ella Hill's father, Reverend Bleuford B. Sanders, added two rooms for his own use after retiring from evangelism. Located at 910 Blanco Street, the house is part of the Castle Hill historic district, known for its Victorian, Queen Anne, and early Craftsman homes. The William Green Hill House is recognized as a State of Texas Historic Landmark, preserving a part of Austin's architectural and family history.
