Town Lake Gazebo
historic place
The Town Lake Gazebo is a historic place located in Austin, Travis County, Texas. It stands on the south shore of Lady Bird Lake, which was formerly known as Town Lake. The gazebo was completed in 1969, with its dedication occurring in June of 1970. The Austin chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction spearheaded this project, beginning in 1965, to beautify the newly formed lake shoreline. Architect J. Sterry Nill designed the structure. Its eclectic modernist architecture features a distinctive hyperbolic paraboloid roof, sometimes described as resembling an inverted morning glory flower. In 1984, the gazebo was renamed the Fannie Davis Town Lake Gazebo, honoring Fannie Davis, a founding member of the Austin chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction. The structure was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020. It was also designated a City of Austin Historic Landmark on February 27, 2025. This gazebo represents a significant community effort to enhance Austin's public spaces.
