The Wells-LaRue House is a historical marker site located in Austin, Travis County, Texas. Specifically, it can be found in the Hyde Park area of Austin. This significant structure was built around 1850, and its design is attributed to Abner Cook, a renowned pioneer architect in the region. The house was originally commissioned for Wayman Wells. Mr. Wells, whose primary residence was situated approximately ten miles north of Austin, utilized this property as a convenient town house. It served his needs for both business dealings and leisure visits to the city. Later, the house became home to his grandchildren, members of the LaRue family, who resided there while attending local school sessions. In 1963, the State Historical Survey Committee officially recognized the site's historical importance by erecting a dedicated historical marker. In that same year, the Wells-LaRue House was also designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. This property stands as a notable building, offering a direct connection to early Austin residential architecture and the lives of its prominent early residents.
