In Austin, Travis County, a historical marker commemorates Winslow Turner. The State of Texas erected this marker in 1936. Winslow Turner, born in Missouri in 1811, played a role in early Texas history. He participated in the Battle of Gonzales on October 2, 1835. Turner also served in the Texas Army in 1836, and in the Woll Campaign in 1842. He died on May 6, 1880, in Bastrop County, Texas. Winslow Turner is buried in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin. This marker acknowledges his service during Texas's formation.
