historic place

The Ziller House is a historic place located in Austin, Travis County. The residence was built around 1877. In 1881, Henry H. Ziller and Bertha Sterzing Ziller purchased this property. Both Henry and Bertha were members of families who came to the Austin area from Germany. They married in 1876. Henry H. Ziller worked as a tinner and later served as an assistant tax assessor for 43 years. Around 1891, the Zillers began making additions and modifications to the house. These changes included elaborate Eastlake ornamentation on the porches, showcasing intricate woodwork and decorative details. The Ziller House remained within the family until 1939. In 2001, the Texas Historical Commission officially designated it a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. This site reflects Austin's development and the influence of German immigrant families during a period of growth and prosperity around the turn of the 20th century.
