Angle, D. M., House

historic place

The D. M. Angle House in Cedar Hill, Texas, is a historic place constructed in 1895. This one-story wood-frame building is considered the most elaborate Victorian-era cottage in the city. Its architectural details include a cross-axial plan, novelty siding, and a wraparound porch supported by turned columns with a decorative spindle frieze. The gables are finished with fish-scale shingles. D. M. Angle, a local farmer and merchant, purchased the house in 1909. He operated a general merchandise store on the town square in Cedar Hill during the early 1900s and again between 1922 and 1929. In 1934, Angle sold the house to Nina Potter. The Potter family, who also operated a grocery store in the area, owned the home until 1992. The D. M. Angle House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. It is significant for its distinctive Victorian-era architecture and its association with prominent early Cedar Hill merchants.
