William Bryant, Jr., House
historic place
The William Bryant, Jr., House is a historic place located in Cedar Hill, Dallas County. William Bryant, Jr., whose family arrived in Cedar Hill in 1868, built this home in 1889. He was a successful cattle rancher and also owned a commercial building on the town square. He and his wife, Sarah Louisa McCan, moved into their new two-story wood-frame house in November of 1889. The house is architecturally significant as one of the few unaltered 'I' houses identified in Dallas County. It is particularly notable for its external end chimneys and a formal central hall. The front of the house features a two-story portico with a steeply pitched gable, decorated with fish-scale shingles and bargeboard. The William Bryant, Jr., House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 27, 1985. This site offers an example of preserved Victorian architecture and represents an early Cedar Hill family.
