Harrison--Hastedt House, Columbus, Texas
historic place
The Harrison--Hastedt House in Columbus, Colorado County, Texas, began as a small two-room structure built in 1861. Jesse Joyner Harrison owned the property from 1877 to 1901. During the 1880s, Harrison hired local builders Andrew Wirtz and Sons to transform the house. They expanded it into a larger two-story frame central hall residence. The Wirtzes incorporated fine milled wood detailing on the house's wraparound porches. In 1911, John and Emma Hastedt acquired the property. The house remained with the Hastedt family until 1989. The Harrison--Hastedt House was recognized as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, with its historical marker erected in 1993 by the Texas Historical Commission. This site illustrates the architectural evolution of a significant local residence over several decades.
