Gugenheim, Simon, House
historic place
The Simon Gugenheim House is a historic place in Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas. It was built around 1900 for Simon and Lila Belle Gugenheim. Simon Gugenheim, born in 1861, arrived in Corpus Christi in 1882. He became a wealthy businessman, co-founding Guggenheim and Cohn Dry Goods Company in 1891. He was also a successful investor and philanthropist. The Victorian-style house features a square turret, bay windows, and decorative gingerbread details. The Gugenheims sold the home in 1924. It was moved in 1926 or 1927, and later relocated to its current site in Heritage Park in 1977. Camp Fire, Inc. restored the house in 1980. The Simon Gugenheim House was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1976.
